This particular art form is called Naive Art. which is characterized by childlike simplicity. Each piece is crafted on a mesh canvas using an extensive palette of Scottish wools, Persian silks and metallic threads as ‘paint’. It has been valued by modernists seeking to get away from what they see is the insincere sophistication of art created within the traditional system. The stitches are varied, creating texture and depth. My themes are sometimes contained in a single piece and at others a series. To date, my themes have ranged from delicate scenes of the far east, to vibrant details of woods and meadows, to fantasy creatures from mythological times, to images of my clients’ beloved pets and children, to my own grandchildren’s passions.

for intricate needlework and vibrant colors. Many years later, while living in New York City as a single mother, she experienced a severe injury, which prevented providing an income to support her two daughters. Each one ‘creates itself’ in that Francie does not draw the images first, the inspiration comes through her, working 8 to 10 hours a day for weeks. The moment that they were presented to the world, they made their debut at a gathering of Guggenheim Museum board members, everyone sold and she was commissioned to make more. And so it began.
