For those of you who ask the question repeatedly: “Your scripts are so amazing and you are so magical, why has this not happened yet?”
I will try to enlighten you , though there is no solid answer. Various elements contribute to being seen and heard and read and picked up. I have been successful to the degree of ‘getting around’…but there is much more to this!
More specifically:
1.“LIfe On Earth” and “Travelers in the Mud” were pickled up by top producers…who put together a team with me….and Bettina Gilois…to create a plan going forward. They set up pitch meetings with studios…I was told to ‘be myself’…however being faced with a table full of people asking about character arcs, episodic breakdowns and audience projections…etc etc…I had not only not been prepared but was dumbstruck…therefore dropped .
2. My feature scripts have been read by notable, (some award winning) directors and actors, and answered with passionate “Wow..yes..let me know when the money is in place, I’m serious. ”
3. After my Spike Lee film school chapter and writing and directing the two shorts that won recognition at the NY Film Festival years ago, I was admitted to an organization called AWD…Alliance of Women Directors out here in LA… here I met incredible women who have been my advocates…believing in my work, praising my scripts. etc…but again, MONEY and DEALS are key.
SO….I will ride this horse until the conjunction of people and timing is in alignment, and in the meantime am expanding my knowledge and understanding of as many aspects as possible. AND I thank you for believing in me through this incredible labyrinth!
And…what I know is that my scripts will be made. I may not be here to usher them through the gates, but I have never been into recognition/money/you name it. These stories were given to me to live and pass forward and the big screen (or small) is their way. It will happen…I am not worried. It would simply be MARVELOUS to actually see ‘it’ and have the fun of that while here!
