Once upon a time ago, as in the 50’s and 60’s, when Christmas trees were painstakingly decked with shiny balls, and homemade styrofoam or felt ornaments with sequins stuck hither and thither, TINSEL was the main event. Haha…oh MOM, you spent so much time and energy getting the tinsel j-u-s-t r-i-g-h-t and we were required to do the same…. though (word for the day) SPUDDLING was more like it.
We spuddled. Spuddle: to work ineffectively—to be extremely busy while achieveing absolutely nothing. And we were so good at it.
Our tree managed to look beguiling and magical kingdom-like, and you were pleased, as you had basically done it all by yourself.
I am supremely grateful that this inclination for decoration has shifted…..
And praise for all of the isms of every age, every season of life on this earth.
Wishing all a beautiful fourth week of Advent as we move forward!
And Love.
