The Covenant of Water

A few days ago, a heart stopping, soul vibing journey into the world that I grew up in, in South India, captured and carried me back into itself through Abraham Verghese’s book ‘Covenant of Water’….and offered up the most surreal healing for me. I hadn’t realized that I needed this healing, but there it was. It appeared and I obeyed.

In this book, the enormity of purpose in my father’s work delivered in story form, allowed me to emotionally participate. Every single medical institution in this story and many of the characters, including the author’s grand mother, were his focus and his comrades.

My father was an absent father. I adored him and make merry of HIM, but he was elsewhere. He passionately conjured the means to keep hospitals and leprosy clinics running, females trained as doctors during a time when only males were allowed, irrigation projects and agricultural needs met, and you name it.  He was rarely to be seen by us.

And humans only have limited energy..

And one cannnot be in two places at once.

Thank you Abraham Verghese.
