Troopness

Yesterday evening I was in a chain reaction crash on the 405. I was not hurt, but the woman in the car behind me was. I’m sharing this because universal human survival and instincts in shocking episodes are phenomenal. Fight or flight and we do take action even when trauma is present.

This is not intended to be ‘about me’ but as a human in this intense time on earth, I shall share:

This year and a half has been loaded for all of us…and personally: My home burned…I drove through the fire twice and my car melted…I lost my income to AI….I had two breasts removed….my younger daughter and I are not speaking the same language….my soul-mate was diagnosed with an incurable disease….and an old injury recently began to bleed internally.

I had just gotten the ‘all clear’ when I headed home and was HIT from behind.

My body went into shock…trembling all over…and for a moment my brain simply said “I was counting on a zoom meeting and now I can’t make it” and then WHAM I was in the present…the girl in the car behind me was screaming….I climbed out while cars whizzed past and got to her…her car was destroyed..I brought her into my car and held her…and called 911.

She was taken away by the fire department….I dealt with details….and then drove home.

Today my insides were completely upset and I trembled all day.

My mind’s eye sees the young woman that I held.

I sat with my own body and was filled with wonder at its ‘troopness’ and the miracle of it all.

We are all troopers.

Don’t forget it.
